Marquette falls 72-71 at Villanova Wednesday night

Markus Howard became the Big East's all-time leading scorer Wednesday night in a Top 25-showdown with Villanova, but Marquette couldn't complete a late rally in the final minutes, falling 72-71 on the road.

Howard finished with 1,408 points, passing Lawrence Moten of Syracuse for the top spot on the all-time Big East scoring leaderboard.

The Golden Eagles trailed by ten points with less than two minutes to play, but rallied to within a point before falling.

Howard had the game-high in scoring with 24 points.

Marquette is off until Tuesday night, when they take on Creighton at Fiserv Forum. Both teams are currently ranked in the Top 25. Creighton won the first meeting between the teams 92-75 on January 1.
