Conference tournaments begin next week across Wisconsin, with the state tournament beginning on February 9. Nate Woelfel of WisSports.net previews some of the biggest conference events, and also highlights some outstanding individual wrestlers who look to make some history in this year's state event.
In southern Wisconsin, there's plenty to like, led by nationally-ranked Stoughton, the top team in D1. There's two wrestlers statewide that can win a fourth state title, an honor only a select few have ever achieved. And, with the season a week out from tournament time, there's still a couple of events taking place that will help set the table for seeding in the tournaments in the next couple of weeks.
Also, while it's not yet sanctioned by the WIAA, girls wrestling got its first official rankings in history this past week, further legitimizing a growing sport in the state and pushing it down the path of eventually becoming a state-sponsored sport.
