After winning two straight state titles, Sun Prairie Girl's Cross Country is back for a shot at championship number three. The Cardinals bring back their top four runners from last year's title squad against a field that brings back nine of 10 top-finishing teams from 2017.
Coach Matt Roe believes the experience and pressure of the past two seasons has prepared Sun Prairie well for what they'll have to do at state. One challenge for the team all year has been the poor weather conditions, so if weather is a factor, the Cardinals should handle that aspect with no problem.
The crowded field at state includes fellow Big 8 schools Madison West and Janesville Craig, as well as challengers Muskego, Onalaska, and Waukesha West, among others. The state meet is Saturday at Wisconsin Rapids.
