Sun Prairie crashed Middleton's Homecoming with a 35-7 victory, racking up 281 passing yards and using an overwhelming pass rush led by Maven Kretche's five sacks and a fumble recovery for a score to defeat their rivals on Friday night.
Sun Prairie quarterback Richie Gilles tossed 236 yards through the air along with two touchdowns and added one rushing in the contest, while Cooper Nelson caught six passes for 64 yards and a touchdown while throwing a 45-yard score to Arrie Davis in the first half as well.
Middleton's ground game couldn't get going. Bryce Carey only managed 51 passing yards, and entered his final drive at quarterback with only nine yards rushing before a few scrambles bumped his total up to 75 yards. Middleton's net offense, however, barely crossed the 100-yard mark, with star running back Kallion Buckner held to negative yards rushing on the night by Sun Prairie.
Middleton will play Madison La Follette next week in a fairly important contest in terms of seeding meetings, while Sun Prairie will play for a share of the Big 8 title against Madison West.
