Menomonie's stifling defense powered over Lake Mill's new-look offense in the opening week of the 2018 high school football season.
Lake Mills had an early opportunity for a score, and kept the Mustangs out of the end zone until late in the first quarter, but the D2 powerhouse was able to score 33 points before the L-Cats could answer with a late touchdown. Menomonie, which has more than double the enrollment of Lake Mills, connected on a big play just before halftime, a 65-yard touchdown bomb, to break the game open before halftime. The Mustangs finished the game with four rushing touchdowns as well.
Adam Moen and J.T. Toepfer shared time at quarterback, and it was Moen who led the L-Cats on a late scoring drive to avert the shutout.
