Game Audio: HSFB: Madison Memorial 32, Sun Prairie 26

Madison Memorial fell behind several times in Friday night's win over Sun Prairie, but never gave up, rallying and completing a 32-26 upset of the defending Big 8 champions.

Sun Prairie got on the board first with a safety near the end of the first quarter, but an interception by Chauncey Cannon set up an 11-yard touchdown pass from Jason Ceniti to Mike Cerniglia to give the Spartans a 7-2 lead in the second quarter. Sun Prairie would answer to take an 8-7 lead, and would extend that lead on a controversial first-half ending play, in which Richie Gilles found Cooper Nelson as time expired for a 33-yard touchdown pass and a 15-7 halftime lead.

The second half got off to an incredible start, as Cade Ellingson took the second half-opening kickoff 93 yards for a score to make it a two-point game. Sun Prairie used an eight-play drive to kick a field goal to extend their lead to 18-13, before the Spartans would take the lead on a Ceniti touchdown run, 19-18.

The Cardinals would get one more score to make it 26-19, a four-yard touchdown pass and two-point conversion pass both to Ethan Ackley. On third and 15 in the fourth quarter, Madison Memorial would go for the home run and get it as Ceniti found Max Hoeser for a 73-yard game-changing play to tie it at 26. Memorial would force a three-and-out of Sun Prairie, and drove for another score, which included an incredible 18-yard pass play caught by a sliding Spartan in front of the goal line to set up a first-and-goal at the one. Ceniti would score his second rushing touchdown to make it 32-26.

From there, the Spartans would hang on to win and pull the upset, 32-26 over Sun Prairie. You can listen to the game below.
