Stoughton, Luxemburg-Casco and Stratford earned championships at the 2018 State Team Wrestling State Tournament Saturday at the UW Field House in Madison.
Stratford won its second consecutive team title in Division 3, defeating Fennimore in the championship match for the second consecutive year. The Tigers won all but three bouts in the match to post a 45-13 victory. Among their individual wins were pins by Hector Rojas at 220, A.J. Schoenfuss at 126 and Derek Marten at 138.
Stoughton won the Division 1 championship for the first time since the advent of dual-formated teamchampionships and its eighth overall. They placed runner-up in the team tournament five times, including the last three seasons. The Vikings defeated Holmen 31-29. They were led by back-to-back pins by Hunter Lewis at 120 and Braeden Whitehead at 126.
Luxemburg-Casco won its 12th team championship, which ranks second only to Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln’s 21 for the most team titles won. After finishing runner-up last year, the Spartans defeated two-time defending champion Ellsworth, 30-28. Austin LeRoy and Nate Lloyd record pins at 195 and 220, respectively, to lead the Spartans.
