GIRLS SEMFINALS
Day two of the 2018 State Hockey Championships started with the girls semifinal between the D.C. Everest Co-op and the Eau Claire North Co-op. Eau Claire advances to the championship by out scoring D.C. Everest 5-2.
Abigail Stow of Eau Claire had four goals in the game, the first one, a power play goal, coming in period one in the eighth minute with an assist from Charlotte Akervi. It didn't take long for her to put her second goal in the net, that happened in the ninth minute, assisted again by Akervi.
D.C. Everest got on the board in the first period with a goal from Trinity Foster in the 15th minute with assists from Eden Gruber and Kenna Bailey. The only with assists credited to Annika Olson and Ava Kison. Kassidy Olivia of D.C. Everest got her name in the scorebook with a goal in the 14th minute, assisted by Kristin Deffner and Challis Proshaska. Eau Claire gets the final goal of the game in the 15th minute with a goal from Brooklyn Arbs with an assist to Stow. Chloe Westberg had 16 saves for D.C. Everest Co-op, and Naomi Stow had 10 for the Eau Claire North Co-op. In the second girls semifinal, the Sun Prairie Co-op eliminated the Fond du Lac Co-op 3-2. In the first period Mary Skorupa of Fond du Lac scores in the second minute of play with the assists credited to Morgan Brown and Jenna Kirschbaum. In the 2nd period, Colleen Milligan of Sun Prairie put her team on the scoreboard in the 11th minute with an assist from Zephryn Jager.
The tandem of Milligan and Jager did it again in the third period in the sixth minute on a powerplay. In the 15th minute of the third period, Skorupa's goal with Brown's assist ties the game and sends it into overtime. In the fourth minute of the overtime period, Jager puts the winning, unassisted goal in the net for the Sun Prairie Co-op. Abby Okon of Fond du Lac recorded 25 saves, and Taylor Thornton of Sun Prairie had 24.
BOYS SEMIFINALS
Verona and Hudson took the ice for the first of two semifinals for the boys. Hudson sent Verona home by defeating the Wildcats 4-1.
In the 15th minute of the first period, Hudson's Ben Lundeen scores with the assist is given to Cole Danielson. Verona quickly answers with a goal of their own in the 16th minute by Graham Sticha, assisted by Leo Renlund. Hudson takes advantage of a powerplay in the second minute of the second period with a goal coming from Bennett Schrank with assists from Aaron Squires and Grady Gornick. Squires scored a goal of his own in the third period in the sixth minute with an assist credited to Lundeen.
In the third period, Schrank put the final goal of the game in the net in the second minute with the assist going to Squires. Saves for game tallied 23 for Alex Cohen of Hudson and 22 for Garhett Kaegi of Verona.
The final game of the day was a defensive battle between the Waukesha North Co-op and Eau Claire Memorial. It took two overtime periods for Eau Claire Memorial to claim the victory, 2-1.
Memorial's Brenden Olson put his team on the board first with a goal in the fifth minute of the third period, assist by Josh Berg. The tying goal went to Kevin Broda for Waukesha North Co-op, unassisted, in the 10th minute.
It wasn't until the 13th minute of the second overtime period that the winning goal is scored by Grant Theiber of the Old Abes. He was assisted on the goal by from Andrew Rioberts and Berg.Garrett Larsen of the Waukesha North Co-op had 44 saves, and Trevor Hudecek of Eau Claire Memorial had 22.
