State boys' hockey quarterfinals were Thursday in Madison at the Coliseum. In the opening game, defending champion Hudson blistered St. Mary's Springs, 7-1.

In the third game of the day, Eau Claire Memorial pounded away at West Salem, winning 6-2. In the night cap, Waukesha needed double overtime to beat D.C. Everest 3-2.
Friday's semifinal match-ups are Verona vs. Hudson at 4 p.m., followed by Eau Claire Memorial taking on Waukesha at 6:15 p.m. Those games are preceded by the girl's hockey semifinals, pitting the Eau Claire Stars against the Central Wisconsin Storm and the Cap City Cougars battling the Warbirds.
