After a tough nine-point loss to Westosha Central on Saturday, Oregon turned around to face another top opponent in Monona Grove on Thursday night on the road. The undefeated Silver Eagles entered the contest ranked #3 in the state at 9-0 according to WisSports.net.
Oregon led from the first basket of the game until midway into the first half, when Monona Grove sprung a 8-1 run when the score was tied at 20 to take a lead they would never relinquish.
Oregon kept at arm's length throughout the game, but could never retake the lead in the second half. Ethan Victorson played well, scoring 33 points for half of the Panthers' total.
Monona Grove got great games from Caden Nelson (22 points) and Max Nelson (14 points). Max hit four three-pointers in the game, including one down the stretch to keep the Silver Eagles in front by multiple possessions.
Jake Schroeckenthaler finished the game with 19 points, his biggest coming with 1:20 in the second half to help seal the win on a basket and a drawn foul, and sank the free throw to complete the three-point play.
