Edgewood led wire to wire and won a defensive battle with Verona, 40-33, in girls basketball on Tuesday night. Edgewood led 14-8 at halftime, and erupted for eight quick points to start the second half to take their biggest lead of the game at 22-8. Verona rallied with an 8-0 run of their own, and from there, the teams played even down the stretch, fueled by clutch free throw shooting from Edgewood's Caitlyn Link (16 points), who made all eight of her free throw attempts in the second half.
Edgewood improves to 5-2 and faces Milton on Friday. Verona drops to 4-3.
