If you were hoping to catch the Green Bay Packers in person this year, you'll likely have to wait until at least October for your first chance.
Monday's announcement by the Minnesota Vikings that fans will not be in attendance for their first home game of the season (September 13) against the Green Bay Packers means that fans likely won't be in attendance at the Packers' first four games of the 2020 season.
Lambeau Field will be empty for the first two home games (September 20 vs. Detroit and October 5 vs. Atlanta) this year, meaning the first date fans can potentially see Green Bay play at home would be November 1 vs. Minnesota.
Additionally, the Packers' opponent on September 27 is a road game against the New Orleans Saints, who have announced no fans for their home opener and stated that fans being allowed in for their second home game vs. Green Bay would be "unlikely" as of guidance on August 12.
That means the next chance for Packers fans to attend a game would be October 18 at Tampa Bay, as the Buccaneers play in the state of Florida, with some of the least-restrictive regulations on mass gatherings in the country. As of August 25, the plan was for Tampa Bay to host around 25% capacity for fans, so about 17,000 attendance for their home games. The Buccaneers have not announced a formal plan yet.
One week later, the Packers play at Houston, and Texas' current guidance is to limit attendance to half of capacity, so it appears likely that fans will be allowed in to that contest as well on October 25 as things stand exactly two months prior.
As always, things can change and the pandemic has proven that time and time again. But, the Packers will be playing without fans in attendance until October 18.
